Safer jumps for local kids

For young athletes learning to high jump, confidence really matters.
So does knowing there is a safe place to land.
That is why Buninyong Little Athletics Club brought a very practical and very important project to SparkTank; new high jump mats to help keep local children safer as they train, compete and build their skills.
Community Bank Buninyong was proud to support the project through SparkTank funding, helping the club upgrade equipment that plays a big role in both safety and participation.
Club member Marty McDonald said why the new mats matter so much.
"The club had been using additional mats around the edges to help improve the landing area and reduce the risk of athletes coming off the back of the mat. This gets us a much safer system,” Marty said.
For families, that safety is the heart of the project. Little Athletics gives children the chance to try new events, build confidence, develop skills and enjoy being active with friends. The right equipment helps make that experience better for everyone involved.

It also means the Buninyong club now has equipment that is more in line with what young athletes will use when they attend other events and competitions.
Community Bank Buninyong's Community Partnerships Lead Kelly Bevan said the project was a perfect example of new infrastructure making a big difference.
“Sometimes the most important projects are the practical ones,” Kelly said.
“New high jump mats might sound simple, but for this club it means safer participation, better training and less pressure on volunteers to keep fundraising for essential equipment.”
Kelly said the project also shows the strength of the SparkTank model, where local groups pitch directly for funding showcasing much needed community-minded projects.
“This is what community banking helps make possible,” Kelly said.
“Customers choose Community Bank Buninyong and because of that, we can reinvest profits back into projects that make everyday life better for local people. In this case, that means safer jumps for local kids.”
The new mats also help take pressure off volunteers, who already give so much time to running local sport. Instead of constantly chasing fundraising goals for major equipment, the club can focus more energy on supporting athletes, running events and creating a positive experience for families.
