Our Community Bank supported the publication of the NEW children’s book ‘I Love the Mount’ to ensure local kids have a credible resource for learning about the magnificent mount in our backyard. Having lived on the mount for 27 years, author Glenice Wood Lake had the opportunity to take long walks up and around Mt Buninyong once she had retired from an academic role. She joined numerous U3A classes, wrote and published two local history stories and enrolled in a course in Melbourne on writing children’s books. The idea for this book, came about through her daily walks and the realisation that the mount was a special place. She learned that it had been very important to the original Keyeet balug, a clan of the Wadawurrung Aboriginal people who lived in the area. Illustrate Jeanette Creelman Skrokov joined Glenice on this new book idea. The books have been gifted to local schools and donated copies are available for purchase from the Buninyong Information Centre.
