Lea’s choice supports second chances

Each year, every member of our Community Bank Buninyong branch team has the opportunity to support to a cause that is close to their heart through our Community Investment Program.

It is one of the ways we make community giving more personal. Our team choose the organisations that matter to them and in doing so, help shine a light on the local work that deserves to be seen and supported.

This time, Lea directed support to the Horse Shepherd Equine Sanctuary in Gordon.

“I’ve been following the Horse Shepherd Equine Sanctuary because what they do is really meaningful to me,” Lea said.

For Lea, the choice was a natural one. Horses have been part of her life since being a kid and growing up riding, alongside her rural ties, has given her a deep appreciation for the care, patience and commitment involved in looking after animals well.

Horse Shepherd Equine Sanctuary rescues and rehabilitates horses in crisis, with the aim of re-homing them wherever possible. Some animals remain at the sanctuary for life due to age, injury or ongoing care needs. While horses and ponies are at the heart of the organisation, the team also cares for other animals who have found safety there.

During Lea’s visit, it was clear this is a place built on compassion, persistence and an enormous amount of practical work. Feed, veterinary care, rehabilitation and day-to-day animal welfare all come with significant costs, and support from the community helps keep that care going.

Horse Shepherd Equine Sanctuary is a registered charity and funded only by donations. The organisation welcomes donations, sponsorships and community support. Sponsorship options vary, with some horses available for sponsorship from as little as $15 per week.

We are proud that Lea chose to use her staff-directed community donation to support this important work. It is a beautiful example of what happens when our people are empowered to back the causes they genuinely care about.
