For over 160 years the Ballaarat Mechanics Institute has played a major role in shaping Ballarat’s history and cultural identity. Today they continue this tradition through the highly popular 'Twilight Talks' series. Our Community Bank jumped on board this year to help bring interesting local experts to speak free of charge for the first time. The first talk was attended by 76 people ranging from primary school age to seniors all keen to know more about space! Amateur astronomer Graeme Hood shared his enthusiasm and knowledge of the latest Mars research and prominent local historian Dr Anne Beggs-Sunter shared the life story of Ballarat's 'lady astronomer' Effie Baker. The second saw more than 100 people listen to Steve Moneghetti speak with passion and humour about the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Ballarat and why we should be excited about the event and its legacy to the city. Former VFL Coach Gerard "Fitzy" Fitzgerald then shared insights from more than three decades in leadership positions, on why leadership is critical to great teams both on and off the sports field.
